Jesse + Christian’s Wedding at The Loft at Earls Yaletown

Just like almost every couple who got married in 2021, Jesse and Christian’s wedding survived multiple postponements and plan changes. They even had to adjust their expectations at the last minute when the government restrictions changed to mean that they weren’t even allowed to dance or mingle. Regardless, these lovebirds tied the knot and we had a pretty epic cocktail party to celebrate.

I always love working at The Loft at Earls - it’s trendy and modern and the perfect size to keep a wedding feeling cozy and intimate. Couples hardly even need to decorate, since the permanent furniture and decor at The Loft is fabulous as-is. Jesse and Christian had a few small decor touches provided by The Little Wedding Shoppe, as well as some sweet neon signs, and the result was a stunning, personal affair with lots of laughs and plenty of memories made.

The day started with the ceremony in The Loft’s private room.

Groom + Groomsmen Entrance Song: 100 Years - Five For Fighting
Bride + Bridesmaids Entrance Song: A Thousand Years - The Piano Guys
Register Signing Song: Better Together - Jack Johnson
Recessional Song: Marry You - Bruno Mars

Next, we transitioned to the lounge for cocktail hour while the private room was flipped for dinner.

Grand Entrance Song: Unbelievable - Diamond Rio

Jesse and Christian, as well as their families, are big country music fans. While I get asked for country music way less in Vancouver than I did in the seven years that I DJed in Edmonton… I have to admit I do love a country wedding. Growing up in Alberta has left a soft spot in my heart for country music, especially the classic country that Jesse and Christian asked for: Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn… all the good old stuff.

During dinner, one of my favourite moments was when I played Lean on Me, and from the other room where the other vendors and I were having our dinner, we heard a singalong erupt at full volume. We rushed over to the dinner room to catch the whole room smiling and belting out the lyrics.

Next, we transitioned back to the lounge, where Jesse and Christian shared their first dance, followed by a Father Daughter dance. Jesse’s dad was quite a character and asked me to start off with a classic song, wait until he gestured that he wasn’t happy with it, and then switch it up to a country song.

First Dance Song: She’s Everything - Brad Paisley
Father Daughter Dance Song(s): What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong; Just Fishin’ - Trace Adkins

Those were the only two dances that were allowed, so the rest of the night was spent as a seated cocktail party. What’s a DJ to do when dancing isn’t allowed? Well, it is pretty hard to perform in a way that makes people not get out of their seats - it goes against every impulse I have! However, country music lends itself well to a good old singalong, and it turned out to be a very fun evening.

First and foremost, I have to acknowledge Airwaves for connecting me with Jesse and Christian. It is always a treat to work with Airwaves, and I’m so, SO grateful for the opportunity to DJ this wedding. Next, I have to mention the amazing team of vendors I got to work alongside at this wedding. The staff at Earls were fabulous, and the day went so smoothly thanks to Amanda of Bright Gray Events. And last but definitely not least, a huge shoutout goes to Laine Mostert for being great to work alongside, and for all of the incredible photos in this blog post.

Now, on with the rest of the photos. Enjoy!
