Melissa + Andrew’s Classy Harry Potter Themed Wedding

Melissa and Andrew got in touch after initially postponing their Okanagan destination wedding and deciding to opt for a local wedding at a private residence. It was so easy to get along with these two during planning, since they were so friendly and positive, despite the ever-changing challenges of wedding planning during a pandemic. A couple date changes later, and the day finally arrived.

While planning, I was picturing the private residence just like so many I had DJed at in Alberta - a big house on an acreage with not much else around. When I arrived at the location for Melissa and Andrew’s wedding, my jaw dropped. This property was GORGEOUS. The amount of love and effort the homeowners had put into their incredible garden and backyard was evident around every corner. There were hundreds of hydrangeas in full bloom, a shady pond, plenty of sitting areas, and even a putting green in the back!

On top of the amazing location, the decor was so classy and stylish. A closer look revealed… SO MANY Harry Potter references! In my chats with this couple about music and the wedding, we apparently failed to cover some important ground: our shared love of Harry Potter. Needless to say I was thrilled to see so many geeky details, and especially that they were done so beautifully. Later I learned that Andrew was the one pushing for a Harry Potter themed wedding, and Melissa agreed to it with the stipulation that it had to be visually beautiful. I think they pulled it off perfectly.

Now, I have to mention the weather. This wedding was on the first day of the most intense heat wave we had this summer. On the drive out to the wedding, my car’s temperature gauge read THIRTY SEVEN degrees. I can guarantee you that the heat will be something that people remember about this day, but luckily once the sun went down there was a bit of relief and we were able to dance the night away.

The day started with an intimate ceremony in the front yard.

Groom’s Entrance Song: Luke Skywalker Theme - Star Wars
Bridesmaid’s Entrance Song: Lucky - Jason Mraz + Colbie Caillat
Bride’s Entrance Song: Can’t Help Falling In Love - Kina Grannis
Recessional Song: Come and Get Your Love - Redbone

We then transitioned to the backyard for cocktails, lawn games and mingling.

Grand Entrance Song: Avengers Theme

As this was at a private residence, outdoors, and less than 50 people, we were actually allowed to have a dance floor! This was the first wedding I DJed since the pandemic started where we were allowed to dance, and I can’t even begin to tell you how good it felt to finally do what I love again.

First Dance Song: These Arms of Mine - Otis Redding

Melissa and Andrews friends and family were so keen to get on the dance floor, there were people cutting a rug even before the first dance. You know it’s going to be a good night when people are dancing before you even start playing your ‘dance floor’ music! And the night only got better from there.

Here’s what Melissa and Andrew had to say about working with PopJukebox:

“Stacey went above and beyond our expectations; I can't say enough about how much having her at our wedding meant to us :) With us changing our wedding date multiple times, Stacey was extremely flexible and responsive throughout and always brought enthusiasm and positivity.

The music was awesome, and Stacey helped make our wedding into the actual party that we wanted it to be! All of our guests have said how much they enjoyed the music and I think it's because Stacey did such a good job reading the atmosphere and playing the right songs to keep the energy going.”

I’d like to give a huge shoutout to Amy Teixeira, whose gorgeous photos truly captured the joy and beauty of Melissa and Andrew’s wedding. Thanks so much, Amy, for sharing these photos with us, and for being a delight to work alongside!

On with the rest of the photos - enjoy!
